AJHL teams like the Fort McMurray Oil Barons will no longer have to beat British Columbia’s champion to get to the national finals.

The four western junior A leagues have agreed to scrap the seven-game series system and change to a 5-team tournament, with the champions of each league and a host team competing for two spots at the RBC Cup.

The first Western Canadian championship will take place in 2013 and be hosted in British Columbia; it’ll come to Alberta in 2015.
