Media will get a close look at the site of a massive emulsion spill. Today, Nexen Energy will show reporters its cleanup efforts at the site south of its Long Lake Operations.

Last Wednesday, systems failed to detect a pipeline burst that caused five million litres of emulsion to spill over 16,000 square metres of land. A contractor walking along the pipeline was the first to alert authorities about the spill of bitumen, sand and produced water.

The company is under an Environmental Protection Order to clean up the mess, install wildlife deterrents and develop proper remediation and other plans that will be reviewed by the Alberta Energy Regulator.
