NLHF gets $600,000 in additional funding from GPMC

Health care in Wood Buffalo is the big winner after a generous donation by the General Presidents’ Maintenance Committee to the Northern Lights Health Foundation.

On Wednesday Jun. 24, the GPMC will present a cheque for $300,000 to the Northern Lights Health Foundation.

It made a $400,000 donation last year and has decided to up the ante with an additional $600,000 over two instalments, the first coming next week.

“The Health Foundation is incredibly grateful to receive a $1 million commitment from the GPMC in support of health in our region,” says Susanne Chaffey, Executive Director of the Health Foundation. “Their support of the Health Foundation’s unrestricted fund allows our organization to respond to our region’s most critical health care needs, positively impacting countless patients receiving care in our community.”

Last year’s installment allowed the Foundation to fund pieces of equipment needed for a new spinal surgery program offered at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre.

The GPMC is an alliance of 13 international building trades unions whose members do maintenance work on large industrial facilities in the oilsands.
