Occupational Health and Safety Officers can now fine unsafe workers

A new government training program is putting more power in the hands of Occupational Health and Safety officers.

10 officers just graduated from the new peace officer training course, giving them the ability to ticket employers that break rules.

Workers can also be fined, and the officers can ticket 67 different infractions, with fines ranging from 100 to 500 dollars.

The training is set to continue until all 143 OHS officers are certified ticket-writers.
