Occupational health clinic opens in Fort McKay Industrial Park

A new occupational health clinic is open for business in the Fort McKay Industrial Park. Doors opened to the public on Monday to the Fort McKay Health Clinic.

Calian says its The Fort McKay Health Clinic  is an efficient, responsive solution to making sure people can get on the payroll in the oilsands. It will provide services such as employee physicals, work injury medical care, immunizations, medical surveillance and drug and alcohol testing.

“Many of the employers in the area have on-site medical and occupational health clinics. We’re hoping to help them with overflows when there’s turnarounds. We’re hoping to help them with any increased capacity needs,” says Health Services Vice-President Scott Murray.

Calian says the clinic will also save time and money now that workers don’t have to travel to Fort McMurray for those services.

“It takes the person who is getting testing done as well as someone to accompany them and in the end it would cost those companies a better part of a day for two of their employees. So we’re trying to provide those services on a fairly regular basis, that’s a little more convenient,” says Murray.

Calian has more than 170 clinics across Canada, and its looking at providing more services in Wood Buffalo.
