Oil Barons fire Head Coach and GM Gord Thibodeau

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons have relieved Head Coach and GM Gord Thibodeau of his duties.

He’s been with the team for 12 years.

The MOB lost to Spruce Grove in 7 games in this year’s North division final, after having a 3-1 series lead.

For the first time since Thibodeau took over as coach, it was the second consecutive year missing the league final.

The team won one league championship under Thibodeau, in 2006.

In 11 seasons with the team, Thibodeau compiled a regular season record of 411-194-60 (.662), and had a playoff record of 101-72 (.584).

The team has released the following statement:

“The Fort McMurray Oil Barons have today relieved Head Coach and General Manager Gord Thibodeau of his duties.

The Northern Alberta Athletic Association (NAAA) would like to thank Mr. Thibodeau for his twelve years of service to the organization, and wish him and his family the best in future.

The organization will immediately begin the search for a new Head Coach and General Manager.

Please direct any inquiries to Len Clarke, NAAA President, at 780-713-5935.”

The Oil Barons are getting set to host the Western Canada Cup next season.
