Oil companies can lose up to $72B without Northern Gateway: report

A new report commissioned by the Alberta government says that without a pipeline from the oilsands to the BC coast, oil companies could lose as much as $72 billion.

The report, by consultants Wood Mackenzie has been submitted to the federal panel reviewing the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline.

Wood Mackenzie says that without the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline, the Canadian oil industry could lose about $8 billion per year between 2017 and 2025.

Public hearings into the $5.5-billion Northern Gateway project are to begin in Kitimat, BC, next Tuesday.
