Oil sands production at Suncor up 16% in August

Suncor, oilsands project

Canada’s biggest oil sands company says production jumped about 16% in August from last year.

Suncor says last month it pumped out 433,000 barrels per day which is 60,000 more than August in 2012.

It’s the first time in 2013 they’ve produced more than 400,000 barrels per day.

From July to August it upped production by 11%; from 390,000bpd to 433,000bpd.

The average year-to-date total went up 6% from 373,000 bpd last year to 341,000.

Suncor said yesterday it’s starting planned maintenance on the vacuum unit on one of its two upgraders.

The work will take four to five weeks, but the other upgrader will continue as normal.

Suncor says the work may increased traffic, noise, and flaring around the site, but that precautions have been taken to minimize disruptions.
