Parking and access to new downtown arena still on minds of residents

Parking and access for the new dowtown arena is still on the minds of residents.

They got their chance to brainstorm ideas for the project at a couple engagement sessions put on by City Centre McMurray yesterday.

The feedback will go into a report for both the city and developers.

Potential developers actually showed up to the session too, so they could hear first hand the concerns and ideas from residents.

Organizer Christy Fong says people are mostly concerned about how parking will work, and what the access will look like.

But she says people impressed her.

“I think it’s not about the quantity, but about the quality of people here tonight,” she continues, “the feedback that we gather is pretty positive, constructive and meaningful. These are the types of comments we need to move forward”

Fong says there was a good range of ideas.

“I think right now we’re getting a lot of ideas, and suggestions in terms of, ‘hey, maybe I should think about what should be in the facility; what should I do there? What businesses should go there?'”

She says people had a pretty good idea of the current plans coming into the event.

“They are educating each other, you know, ‘I know about this’ and, ‘actually, I heard about this,’ so I think here people can gather everyone’s ideas and build a consensus.”
