Pipeline rep compares Gateway to railway

The man in charge of the Northern Gateway oil sands pipeline says big projects always bring controversy in Canada.

John Carruthers from Enbridge told hearings on the project in Edmonton that there was even controversy over the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1871.

But he says projects like that, or the TransCanada Pipeline, always end up providing long-term benefit to the country.

Hearings started up again yesterday.
