Police shoot 16-year old boy

A 16-year old was shot by police near the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre on Hospital Street on Saturday afternoon, RCMP have confirmed.

The shooting happened after 3 PM as officers attempted to stop a stolen car.

Police say shots were fired at the car when it attempted to escape the scene, injuring the 16-year old driver.

He was flown to hospital in Edmonton and is now in stable condition.

The two passengers in the stolen car were not injured and were released by police.

The two officers involved in the shooting suffered minor injuries.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is now handling the investigation.
