Poll shows 7-point Wildrose lead

A new provincial election poll conducted for the CBC by Return on Insight shows the Wildrose Party holding a 7-percentage point lead over the governing Progressive Conservatives.

The poll has Danielle Smith’s party in majority government territory with 43 percent support, with Alison Redford’s Tories at 36 percent. The Liberals are in third with 11 percent with the NDP fourth at 9 percent.

But company president Bruce Cameron says he’s surprised that nearly a quarter of voters are still undecided.

“I think it may be indicative of some of the people considering strategic voting,” he said. “They really are thinking ‘which side do I want to be on’, so you expect that to get down around 12-15% before election day.”

Cameron also says the endorsement of the PCs by former premier Peter Lougheed has helped the party rebound in Calgary, though the Wildrose holds a small lead in Edmonton and a massive lead outside the two major cities.
