Postal workers argue it's unconstitutional to cut mail delivery

A union is continuing its fight against Canada Post and its mail delivery cutbacks.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers wants a federal court to declare it as unconstitutional under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Last year, the Crown Corporation announced it was making the switch to community mailboxes. Fort McMurray was picked as one of the first communities to go through the transition. It said mail would still be delivered straight to doors in high traffic areas such as downtown or business areas.

During the first phase of the transition in Oct. 2014, almost 8,500 Fort McMurray addresses lost mail delivery.

A CUPW spokesperson says it might take the fight to the Supreme Court.
