Progressive Conservative leadership candidates debate in Fort McMurray

The six candidates to succeed Ed Stelmach as PC leader debated in Fort McMurray last night. A crowd of several hundred packed a hotel ballroom in Gregoire to hear the candidates speak on issues from energy royalties to home schooling.

The candidates addressed many local issues as well, especially infrastructure, where Doug Horner says there’s room for improvement.

Rick Orman said the provincial government has failed this region when it comes to twinning Highway 63.

Several candidates addressed the idea of supporting further expansion of the oil sands. Gary Mar says he brought visitors to the oil sands when he served as the province’s representative to the United States.

The Tories will elect their new leader on September 17th – with a potential second ballot on October 1st.
