The Alberta government is considering whether to declare woodland caribou an endangered species over the objections of the energy, forestry and agriculture industries.

Sustainable Resources Minister Mel Knight confirms a scientific committee made the recommendation on the caribou’s status last week.

Documents show the report was delayed by nearly a year due to criticism from the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers and the Alberta Forest Products Association.
