Province making Willow Square announcement

Alberta’s Seniors minister is making an announcement about the Willow Square lands.

Minister Jeff Johnson is joining Wood Buffalo delegates for a news conference at noon on Friday. The long-delayed Aging in Place Centre has been designated to sit on the site, but the property is tangled in land negotiations with the federal government.

This summer a spokesperson for municipal affairs said negotiations with Ottawa were moving forward and a land transfer agreement may be finalized by September.

While the province is building a continuing care facility and adjoining health care centre in Parsons Creek, seniors have been lobbying for the Aging in Place Centre downtown.

Johnson will be joined by MP David Yurdiga, MLAs Don Scott and Mike Allen, Mayor Melissa Blake and President Brian Lutes of Wood Buffalo Housing and Development Corporation.
