Province says better oil sands monitoring already underway

The province says it and the federal government have already started to implement a new oilsands monitoring plan announced earlier this year.
Alberta Environment spokesman Mark Cooper says scientists are now looking at more sites, more often and for more contaminants than before.
That’s in line with what the plan recommended when it was released in February.
It came in response to years of criticism that the province was doing a poor job of tracking changes massive energy development was creating in northern Alberta.
