Provincial deficit grows

The provincial government is blaming natural disasters, market volatility, and new education funding for an increase in the projected budget deficit.
In its second quarter fiscal update, the province says it now expects a 3.1 billion dollar deficit.
That’s lower than what was predicted in the budget back in November, but almost two billion higher than what the government predicted just three months ago.
Despite the change, Finance Minister Ron Liepert says the province is still in what he calls an enviable economic position.
