RCMP confirm report of attempted abduction

Police are confirming they’ve received another report about an attempted abduction of a school student.

An online post in a Fort McMurray Facebook group describes it as happening yesterday morning around 7:30 am near Holy Trinity, and says that a man jumped out of a truck and tried to grab a student walking to school, who got away.

RCMP say because they’re investigating the crime, they can’t confirm any specific details of it.

They’re also not yet able to connect this report with related ones of weeks past, where a man in a black pickup truck was reportedly offering rides home to children walking home from school.

Police say the most helpful piece of information they can get in these types of incidents is a detailed description, and a license plate if possible.

The Fort McMurray Public School District says police have told it they’re looking for a man in his 40s to 50s, with dark hair and a moustache, driving a pickup truck.

It sent out a release to students and parents that you can read here.
