RCMP reminds drivers and pedestrians to be careful on the road

Police cars will be parked around Fort McMurray schools as students head back to class this September.

Wood Buffalo RCMP is reminding drivers and pedestrians to be careful at intersections, which could be potentially dangerous. Mounties will be parked in school zones during the first couple weeks of class, to make sure everyone is adjusting to the heavier traffic.

“It’s just like a friendly reminder, if you see a police car, just check your driving behavior,” says Corp. George Cameron. “Or in the pedestrian’s case, make sure you cross safely.”

Cameron says pedestrians shouldn’t just rely on traffic lights and crosswalk signs when walking.

Police are still waiting on the condition of a woman and baby who were airlifted to a Edmonton hospital last Monday, after they were hit by a truck in Timberlea. Two women were pushing a stroller while crossing the intersection of Paquette Drive and Rainbow Creek Drive.
