Car thefts up

Theft of and from vehicles is up in the Regional Municipality.

Fort McMurray RCMP are reminding you to lock your doors, and not leave valuables in them.

Constable Jesse Jones says that it can be hard to find the culprits, as it usually is dark, and all police have to work with is forensics, if the suspects leave any.

Jones says that the cold weather isn’t a deterrent for criminals either.

To avoid thefts, he says park your cars in well lit areas, or if you have a garage to use it.

Other options to keep your property safe is to invest in an automatic car starter or a security system.

If you witness suspicious activity as well, don’t hesitate to call the police at 788-4237.
