RCMP seatbelt blitz leads to over 200 charges

Wood Buffalo’s Integrated Traffic Unit says it caught some driving 136 kilometres an hour in a 70 zone in town this week.

The driver is facing a fine and licence suspension.

That came as part of a seatbelt blitz the ITU did on Wednesday and Thursday, where it caught 231 people.

102 of them weren’t wearing seatbelts, while 81 more were ticketed for talking or texting on their cell phones.

Police also found one drunk driver downtown, who’s been charged under the criminal code.
