Alison Redford is urging American politicians to rise above rhetoric and emotion when it comes to the oil sands.

The Premier has made her second trip to Washington D.C. since taking office, telling U.S. energy reporters that she’s confident the state department can decide on Keystone XL on its own merits.

Earlier this week, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said he would immediately approve the pipeline after taking office.

Republicans in Congress are trying to pass a measure that would strip the State Department of its ability to block the project – but Redford says she won’t comment on that debate.
