Report: 10 times more accidents in AB workplaces than reported

According to the Parkland Institute the amount of workplace accidents in Alberta is 10 times more than what the government is reporting.

The university research group found that in 2009 there were about 500,000 injuries but, the government only reported about 53,000.

It says workplaces are much more dangerous than what the government acknowledges publicly and that injury-prevention efforts are ineffective.

It says the numbers would be lower if Alberta made businesses establish joint employee-employer safety committees like in other provinces.
