Canadian Oil Sands Limited won’t say whether a report yesterday that a major piece of equipment at Syncrude is offline is true.
Bloomberg reported that a steam generator went down at the Aurora mine and could take a month to get back online.
That equipment helps to separate sand and bitumen.
But the largest owner of the project says it won’t provide an update unless it has to change its annual production outlook.
An industry source told Bloomberg that the outage would reduce Syncrude’s september production by 500 thousand barrels.
