RMWB announces addition of barriers at Hardin Street Tim Hortons

Concrete Jersey barriers have been installed at the Hardin Street Tim Hortons location to control traffic movements.

The move is being made in an effort to stop drivers from stopping on Hardin Street causing traffic hazards and safety concerns.

“While drivers persist in queuing in the curb lane on Hardin Street and making illegal turns, congestion and confusion continue and pedestrians are endangered.” said Carol Theberge, Divisional Manager of Public Services. “We expect this barrier, combined with ticketing, and bylaw enforcement to resolve these issues.”

The Jersey concrete barriers, which have been approved by Tim Hortons, establish a Y-shaped island at the entrance of the plaza on Hardin Street, creating a right-in and right-out traffic flow. Other smaller barriers will help manage the inflow queue for Tim Hortons. Placed primarily on Municipal road allowance property but off the roadway, the barriers do not interfere with traffic flow in any way.

“No Stopping” signs are also in effect on Hardin Street, as are three “No Left Turn” signs between Highway 63 and MacDonald Avenue.

Motorists found disobeying the traffic signs will be issued a ticket for $172 under section 57 of the Traffic Safety Act. This offence also holds a two demerit point penalty.
