As it works to mark Emergency Preparedness Week, a national effort of all levels of government in promoting the importance of household emergency preparedness, the RMWB is encouraging all residents to be ready for any emergency.

The theme this year is “72 hours … is your family prepared?” RMWB Emergency Management is reminding families there are three steps to being prepared: know the risks, make a plan and get a kit.

Here in Fort McMurray the biggest risks come from flooding, forest fires and dangerous goods incidents. All homes should have a 72 hour kit on hand in case of any of those events.

During Emergency Preparedness Week, the RMWB is hosting the following events:

  • Sunday, May 1, 2016
    Noon to 4 p.m.
Emergency Management, Fire Prevention, Bylaw Services and RCMP Support Services personnel will be at Peter Pond Mall talking to residents about emergency preparedness.
  • Saturday, May 7, 2016
    Noon to 3 p.m.
Come to see what a reception centre looks like and potential services that could be offered to evacuees during a large emergency at the Anzac Recreation Centre with Emergency Social Services Team.
