The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is bringing its safety codes services in house.

Up to now the RMWB has been using contractors to administer inspection services to residents.

Starting January 5th, 2015, all safety codes services will be administered by the municipality at 309 Powder Drive.

Safety Codes Manager Damon McGillivray said the change will save residents time, “When a citizen comes in  to apply for a permit, they’re coming in under one roof now, they can come in here apply for their permit, get their permit and if they wish to request an inspection they can.”

The move is expected to save tax payer dollars by allowing the RMWB to better leverage existing staff and resources.

Residents can expect faster permit approval and turnaround time on documents.

Bringing the services in house will create 15 jobs within the municipality, 10 inspectors, one supervisor and four in administration.
