RMWB to lower Ft Chip winter road limit

Load limits on the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road will be lowered to 4,500 kg or less on Monday, March 26, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

Current load limits (45,000 kg from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m., and 4,500 kg at all other times) will be in place until Sunday, weather permitting.

Motorists who need to use the Winter Road are advised to do so as soon as possible in the event of a sudden weather-related closure.

The speed limit remains 50 km per hour.

Road maintenance work is ongoing and the public is reminded to use extreme caution when using the road.

Motorists are advised that there are no regular services on the Winter Road like gas stations or road patrols. Cell phone coverage is very limited. Travelers must be prepared for emergency situations.
