Jolly Old St. Nick himself is applauding Fort McMurray residents for participating in the Nominate Your Neighbour program, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

Over 70 recognitions have been received, with five homes featured in the “Display of the Week” contest, as part of Nominate Your Neighbour.

“I’ve had Rudolph and some elves in the region plotting our course for Christmas Eve, and they’ve reported some outstanding lighting displays,” said Santa when reached at the North Pole. “Those inflatable Santa representations I’ve seen on some of the front lawns do an admirable job capturing my jolly and plump nature!”

“We’re happy to hear that Santa endorses our Nominate Your Neighbour program,” said Dannette Scott, the Chairperson of the Wood Buffalo Communities in Bloom committee. “It’s been so nice to see our residents show their community pride by putting up their lighting displays and festive decorations.”

The Municipal Facebook account, accessed through www.woodbuffalo.ab.ca, includes photos of some nominated homes as well. Residents are also encouraged to check out Borealis Park. New winter lighting displays have been installed there to complement the skating pond, which will open for the winter season on December 24, weather permitting.
