Scott looks forward to representing new riding

The first person to announce their candidacy nomination in Fort McMurray-Conklin will now be the first elected MLA for the new riding.

Now-former Wood Buffalo councillor Don Scott was elected to represent the new riding in yesterday’s election, defeating former mayor and Wildrose candidate Doug Faulkner, with 49 percent of the vote to Faulkner’s 40 percent.

“I am so excited. It’s going to make such a difference for this region to be able to work provincially and get things done for this region. I’m just so excited I’m going to have an opportunity to advocate for this region’s needs and get things done for this region.”

The race between the two candidates was a close one. Like the tight race in Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo between PC candidate Mike Allen and incumbent Wildrose MLA Guy Boutilier, he says that his win is thanks to his campaign team.

“I feel like I delivered a really good campaign. I had a great campaign team, and we went to as many doors as possible. We tried to get the word out to vote to as many people as possible. I think we really engaged voters. So I’m really pleased with the result.”

Both Scott and Allen say they intend to work closely with regional council to help communication between the municipality and the provincial government.
