Shell attempts to block Greenpeace from hearings

Shell is trying to stop Greenpeace from testifying at the hearings on its Jackpine mine expansion.

The company has written a letter to the Canadian Environment Assessment Agency, arguing that Greenpeace doesn’t have the right to appear under new federal rules.

Those rules limit presenters to just those who are directly affected by a project or who have special expertise to offer.

Greenpeace says its report outlines what effect the mine expansion would have on Canada’s climate policy.

It’s calling the letter from Shell an attempt to censor critics of the industry.
