Shell Place moving ahead for 2015 completion

Shell Place construction has continued to progress over the winter months, says Regional Recreation Corporation CEO Tim Reid.

He says major landscaping is one of the things people will see in the spring.

“Hopefully what you see structure-wise will be in the final stages of completion, so that we can build some turf stadiums in behind and do all the landscaping. So in short, there’s a lot of gardening work that we have to do in the spring,” he said.

Reid says in terms of the landscaping, it’s also most dependent on good weather.

“The biggest area of risk that we have is related to the landscaping work that has to be done next summer. If we have a very unfortunate spring, that risk goes up. So, we’ve put some great mitigating steps in place, we hope we can get to it early in the spring, if that happens I think we’ll be in great shape,” he said.

As of January 1, the entire Nexen canopy has been installed, as well as the majority of the steel in the baseball field and conference centres.

The canopy will go overtop a concert stage, that can host an outdoor show and hold 15 to 20 thousand people.
