Highway 63 reopens, SRD continues to battle wildfire south of Fort McMurray

Highway 63 is now open to traffic. A speed limit of 50 km/hr is in place. Smoke from the wildfire may be present in the area, so please use extreme caution when driving. For road closure information please phone AMA at 1-877-262-4997.
The wildfire is approximately 20 kilometres south of Fort McMurray is still around 581 hectares in size. Lower temperatures and higher humidity levels have significantly diminished fire activity today. There currently is no threat to surrounding communities.

The fireguard is being completed by bulldozers; various heavy equipment and helicopters are supporting firefighters on scene.
