SRD: In 2 days, 13 wildfires were started by lightning

Sustainable Resource Development says there are 5 lightning-started wildfires burning in the region.

It says 13 were started by lightening in the past 2 days.

Sustainable Resource Development says 8 were started Monday, and yesterday 5 more were added.

1 is burning out of control, 2 are being held and 2 are under control

The out of control fire covers 110 hectares, 48 clicks southeast of Fort Chipewyan.

To get it under control fire managers are igniting a boundary around it by using aerial ignition and drip torches.

There are 64 firefighters, 11 helicopters, heavy equipment and lots of other people working on them.

The hazard risk is still low in Fort McMurray, and still extreme north of Lake Athabasca, including Fort Chip, but the rain in the forecast should help.
