StatsCan: Crime down across the country

Police reported crime in Canada is continuing to drop in volume and severity.

Statistics Canada’s latest Crime Severity Index report says it dropped nine per cent from the year before.

In Alberta, crime severity dropped about two per cent, while violent crimes were down about six per cent.

A Simon Fraser Univerisity report, commissioned by the RMWB, found Wood Buffalo’s crime rates have dropped over the years.

But the region had a higher rate for cocaine distribution and impaired driving compared to Alberta and Canadian averages.
