Suncor says its Firebag plant has reached its full design capacity of 120 thousand barrels per day.
Stage 3 of the project has been online since August of last year, and production ramped up faster than the company expected.
Third quarter production this year more than doubled compared to last year, from 55 thousand to 113 thousand barrels per day.
Suncor also says stage 4 of Firebag is ten percent under budget and three months ahead of schedule, with first oil expected by the end of the year.
Once that reaches full capacity, the whole site will produce about 180 thousand barrels per day.
