Suncor loses appeal, random drug tests still barred

Suncor has lost its latest battle to randomly drug test its workers.

An Alberta Court of Appeals panel denied the company’s request to overturn an injunction that the CEP Union Local 707 got.

That injunction prevented the testing program from starting until a labour arbitration board decides if it violates worker privacy rights.

The tests were supposed to start on October 15th.

The injunction was handed down because Suncor didn’t prove that its policy would actually increase safety, while the union did prove it would have a negative effect on members.
