Suncor: No bitumen leaked into the Athabasca River

Suncor, oilsands project

About 350-thousand liters of industrial waste water leaked into the Athabasca River from a broken pipe at Suncor.

In a company release it says it may have a minor short term effect to the river, and says its unacceptable.

It says tests show no bitumen in the waste water that leaked for 10 hours, but water, clay, fine particulates, and what they call inorganic and organic compounds.

A third party will look into it’s impact on the environment.

Canada’s largest oil company discovered the leak on Monday, and says the situation will continue to be monitored.
