Suncor to resume operations shortly

Suncor, oilsands project

Suncor Energy has begun the remobilization process of its employees to its sites in Fort McMurray after the RMWB began the phased re-entry of sites and camps over the last number of days.

“Given our current assessment, we are confident we can safely return people to the region to begin the process of restarting operations,” said Steve Williams, Suncor president and chief executive officer in a press release late Monday night. “We believe that getting our employees back to work is an important part of the process to get things back to normal in Fort McMurray.”

Employees are currently in the region completing the pre-work needed for the restart of operations. Suncor says so far there has been no damage to any of its assets and that enhanced fire mitigation work has been conducted at all of its sites.

Fire risk at Suncor’s base plant has been severely reduced as there is now little fuel left in the area. Third party pipeline and power infrastructure has mostly been restored, Suncor expects lodges near base plant to be ready to house workers within just a few days.

Construction at Fort Hills continued to ramp up over the weekend.

Syncrude is also in the process of restarting its operations.
