A problem with a fractionator unit at Suncor has shut down one of its two upgraders.
The company says it starting shutting down the upgrader late yesterday, and that the unplanned maintenance should last three to five weeks.
Production at Suncor will be reduced to about 140 thousand barrels per day during the shutdown, but the company says its annual target of 325 to 355 thousand won’t be affected.
The news sent prices for Canadian light synthetic crude soaring.
