The world’s first green carnival is reflecting after more than 20,000 people who visited it over the Labour Day long weekend.
On Saturday alone, Sustainival says it had 12,000 people at the MacDonald Island Park location, which was booseted by the debut of the Green Beast Eco-challenge.
It was an Amazing Race styled game that saw 800 comeptitors search for clues and use them to solve a master crossword puzzle.
Sustainival used about 2,500 litres of used vegetable oil which was converted to biodiesel to power the rides and games.
The veggie oil was gathered form the Sawridge, Earls, and MacDonald Island Park.
Hines Industrial Services provided 4 solar and wind powered utility trailers to provide area lighting to the site, as well as power the main stage.
The Green Beast Challenge also raised about $10,000 for 6 local, not-for-profit and charitable organizations.
They included Justin Slade Youth Foundation, Girls Inc., Big Brothers Big Sisters, Northern Lights Health Foundation, SPCA and the Wood Buffalo Food Bank.
