Syncrude Boreal Open returns next week

A field of 156 players from nearly 20 countries will come to Fort McMurray to compete for $175,000 in prize money at next week’s Syncrude Boreal Open.

The fifth edition of the tournament at the Fort McMurray Golf Club begins on Jun. 22 through Jun. 28.

While play only starts on Jun. 25, activities will start at the beginning of the week.

“We have the women’s clinic that runs on Monday June 22nd we have two tour pros who host three different clinics, there is the AECON family day which is on Saturday kids under 14 can come in and get a hot dog and pop and take in some great, great golf and we also have the RBC Aboriginal clinic which takes place on Saturday,” said Lanette Ellis, Tournament Chair.

Proceeds from the tournament will be given to the Keyano College Foundation, in support of Huskies Athletics.

“Seeing the community come together, everyone volunteering and having a great time pitching in, opening the doors of the homes to give folks a place to stay and socializing, it’s just a tremendous, tremendous event for all,” said Syncrude CEO Mark Ward.

Tickets are $15 at the gate or available online here. Children under 14 and under are allowed in for free.

The tournament has partnered with the organizers of the Northern Kickoff II featuring the Toronto Argonauts hosting the Edmonton Eskimos at Shell Place on Jun. 27. Football ticket holders will get free admission to Championship Sunday on Jun. 28 by showing their ticket stub.

The public is asked to park at the Casman Centre, a free shuttle service will take golf fans to and from the golf course.
