Syncrude expansion plans at risk

Plans to expand Syncrude by the end of the decade have been scrapped.

Imperial Oil, which owns 25% of Syncrude, told the Calgary Herald it doesn’t think the planned extra 200 thousand barrels a day will happen by 2020.

Construction of a new 100-thousand barrel per day mining train was planned to start next year.

Imperial has also seen the price tag of its new Kearl project jump by almost a third.

New expansion would require the consent of all the Syncrude owners.
