A day after Suncor reported a 46% jump in production, Syncrude is reporting a 41 percent drop in May.

Production went down from 330 thousand barrels per day in April to 196 thousand last month.

That’s because of ongoing maintenance work on one of its cokers.

That maintenance started in early May and should be finished by early July.

The company has already cut its 2012 estimate to 301 thousand b-p-d because of repairs on another coker.
