Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre closed until September

After last week’s flood damaged much of the interior of the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre, Keyano has had to push back its re-opening until the Labour Day long weekend.

Marketing Manager of Sport and Wellness Jennie Walker says regular programming will continue, just at different places.

“Other parts of the facility that involve the Alberta Sport Development Centre and the Be Fit For Life program have moved to other locations within the municipality and they’re going to be operating the programs as usual, through the summer months,” she said.

Gym members have the option of using the workout facilities at either the YMCA in Thickwood, or Macdonald Island Park.

Walker says they’re working to smooth the transition for those looking to switch workout locations.

“Sometime in the next few weeks we’re going to be issuing official membership cards to our members. Which will be hand delivered to them, so they will actually be able to identify that they’re members here,” she said.

Walker also says they feel fortunate to have been able to offer this contingency plan.

“They’ve been amazing to work with, both facilities. The fact that they’re doing this for us is really great.”

The centre plans to be up and running for all of its bookings in the fall, including those with Keyano Huskies athletics, but won’t be taking any throughout the summer.
