Syncrude to sponsor Boreal Open through 2016

It wasn’t finalized till the last minute, but Syncrude says it will be the title sponsor the Boreal Open until 2016.

Tournament Director David Lee-Fay says it’s exciting.

“We’re just thrilled to have them on for another 3 years,” he adds, “we just want to keep building on the success that we established in the first 3years, and continue to reach out into the community to get more people engaged.”

President Scott Sullivan says it makes the community a better place.

“Every year it gets better, and of course now with this event being on PGA Tour Canada that’s just a bonus for us,” he continues,”you know, as the community has learned about it, it’s just developing that tradition and life of its own, which is so nice for Fort McMurray.”

Also, for it’s second year, it’ll support KidSport to help eliminate the costs of putting a child in an organized sport.

Sullivan says it tries to be active in the community in a number of ways.

“Part of that is really supporting community events and having opportunity to bring kids into the community to participate in sporting events that otherwise they would never be able to do, it’s just so important.”

Tee off is Thursday with more than 150 top PGA prospects but activities run the whole week.
