The candidates for Mayor battle it out at Mayoralty Forum

The running for Mayor is getting hot.

Melissa Blake, Jim Rogers and Gene Ouellette had lots to say to questions asked by the audience at the My Community My Voice’s Mayoralty Forum last night.

Issues brought up surrounded bylaws, redevelopment, land, accountability, administration and communication.

Blake says it was good to get the issues on the table and hear the candidates stance.

“To actually have the candidates here responding to questions as they come up, gives me a better comfort that they are seriously considering what the issues are and understanding what their positions are,” she continues, “so frankly, I look at it as a voter…would I vote for either of them? Not based on what I heard tonight, but I’m glad I got to hear it.”

In the closing comments, Rogers says he’s glad the community has the vote.

“Because personally, when I’m looking on and thinking 4 more years of the trajectory that we’ve been on with the direction that we’ve been having and this mysterious budgeting process that seems to have a life of it’s own, we’re in for a real disaster.”

Ouellette says what’s going on in council right now isn’t working and he wants change.

“At the end of the day, when an incumbent councillor on social media tells the story that they don’t get the facts before they make decisions, they don’t know anymore than a regular citizen, that screams a problem to me,” he adds, “I don’t understand why the top leadership never dealt with that.”

My Community My Voice is an initiative put on by the Chamber of Commerce.
