Saskatoon based rock band The Sheepdogs will help close out the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games on Sunday, Aug. 16 as part of the closing ceremonies.

2015 Wood Buffalo announced the details of its cultural and festival programs for the upcoming Western Canada Summer Games being held from Aug. 7-16.

“The cultural components of the Games is a critical component to ensuring the athletes, visitors and residents of our region have a phenomenal experience while enjoying the Games,” said Kim Rizzi, General Manager. “Our culture, Ceremonies and Protocol team has outdone themselves with a wide variety of programming, concerts, exhibits and more that will ensure a diverse cultural portfolio and tons of exciting entertainment for everyone involved.”

During the games Jubilee Plaza will be home to Jubilee Daze featuring The Urban Market, music by DJQpid and broadcasts from SportsNet. At night it will turn into a party at the plaza featuring multicultural and local talent performances all for free.

The opening ceremonies and Big Sky Spirit productions will be put on by Patrick Roberge Productions which produced the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2015 Canada Winter Games as well as the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 Canada Official Draw.

Ticket sales are about one-third where they’re expected to be by the time the Games begin on Aug. 7.

“What happens is the teams will be selected mid-July  and then that’s when all the parents are going to get on the hammer and on the website to buy the tickets because they want to come see their kids, so we’re anticipating a big rush in mid-July,” said Rizzi.

The 2015 Western Canada Summer games begin in just 35 days.
