Thousands Lined Up at Grand Ole Opry House In Hopes To Attend George Jones's Funeral

Thousands of George Jones’ fans were waiting outside the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville Thursday morning (May 2) in hopes of attending his funeral. Many began lining up Wednesday night for the service which is scheduled to include appearances by Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Kid Rock, Ronnie Milsap, Vince Gill, Charlie Daniels, Randy Travis, Tanya Tucker, Barbara Mandrell and former first lady Laura Bush, among others. Alan Jackson is expected to close the service with a performance of Jones’ signature song, “He Stopped Loving Her Today.”

While the funeral service is open to the public, Jones’ close friends gathered Wednesday evening at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home in Nashville for a private visitation. Among those paying their respects included Paisley, Jackson, Mandrell, Tucker, Loretta Lynn, Mel Tillis, Little Jimmy Dickens, Dierks Bentley, Trace Adkins, Jamey Johnson, Joe Diffie, Brenda Lee, John Rich, Lynn Anderson, Ricky Skaggs, Larry Gatlin, Ray Stevens and Oak Ridge Boys member William Lee Golden.
